Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is one of my most favorite holidays, not only because it means Christmas is right around the corner but also I get to spend time with my family. Although my family and I don't celebrate Thanksgiving in a traditional way, we always have a blast making delicious food, watching movies, and making more memories. We always like to welcome people into our home and feast.  However, with COVID cases rising, we, like many other families, changed our 'typical' Thanksgiving. This year, we are keeping our celebrations small and in-house - still with mouth-watering food and lots of laughter.  There is so much to be grateful for. I am thankful for my friends, who are like a second family. I am thankful for my health, even more, this year. I am thankful for the first-responders, the front line workers, the doctors, and healthcare officials who are putting their lives on the line for us.  I am eternally thankful for my family, who have made quarantine bearable and keeping eac

Manifestation: Is it a Myth?

A couple years ago I read a book called The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. With 2020 coming to a wrap and everyone beginning their New Year resolutions, I've found the art of manifestation extremely enticing. You always hear "cut negative people out of your life" or "positive vibes only," but do you ever stop to think why this is? It's because of the Law of Attraction. Notoriously known to be one of the natural sciences' founding principles is heavily applicable to manifestation.  Suppose you'd like to get an interview for an internship, then with the Law of Attraction all you have to do is wish for it. But not just a simple wish. You have to see yourself at the interview, doing well, and then excelling at the internship. The law states that you can attract specific things that you want as long as you consistently wish for them.  There are many ways to sustain your manifestation methods. Many include bedtime programming, repetition, vision boards, and much

Ganesh Festival

‘Modak’ is one of my favorite food made at the Ganesh festival. I and Lord Ganesha share one common thing that is this Modaks. LOL. It is basically fresh coconut and jaggery mixed with poppy seeds, nutmeg, cardamom, and stuffed inside a sachet made with rice flour and saffron, then steamed. I think in Malaysia they have something similar as well. Most of the Hindus celebrate the Lord Ganesh festival in late Aug/early Sept as per the Hindu calendar. Modaks are one of the offerings made for god. It's a 10-day festival and I have fond memories of celebrating it in India while being on Summer vacation. While the whole family, uncles/aunts/cousins come together for 10days and pray to this deity for wealth, knowledge, prosperity. Eat lots of food and have fun! It's like having Christmas all over again. Lord Ganesha is an elephant-headed god and he is a younger son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. This festival is celebrated as his Birthday. One of the popular legends says Lord Ganesha was

The Prologue : Her & I

UPDATE: The entire book and the rest of the chapters have been published on Amazon Kindle on Valentine's Day in 2022. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've always thought of writing a book, maybe a novelette, so here it is. The Prologue of my book. Stay tuned for updates to the story. This is a work of fiction. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental. The story, all names, characters, and incidents portrayed in this production are fictitious. No identification with actual persons (living or deceased), places, buildings, and products is intended or should be inferred.  Her & I The Prologue  We had been friends for a while, three years to be exact, but last year was the one -- the time of my life, the time of her life (probably), the time of our lives. It was unbelievable how similar we were, we both took the same classes

Fans Don’t Love P.S. I Still Love You

Directed by Micheal Fimognari, the much-anticipated Valentine day release, P.S. I Still Love You, proves to be a disappointment to the series’ fans. The sequel tends to deliver a lowballed continuation of the first movie, lacking both character development and plot progression. The second installment in the series falls victim to the sequel curse. The first film features Lara Jean (Lana Condor) as a shy girl who silently fantasizes about her crushes and writes five love letters to the boys she’s ever loved. One day, her younger sister Kitty (Anna Cathcart) mails all five of the letters. The resulting romantic mix-ups culminated in Lara Jean finding love with one of the letters’ recipients, Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo). The film’s plot starts where the first film left it, Lara Jean is entering her first real relationship, along with all of her insecurities, later proving to be a vital factor in the couple’s falling-out.  Throughout the movie, the audience is soon disheartene

Turn Back Time

The TV turns off. I've just finished watching another amazing Harry Potter movie for the hundredth time: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The movie leaves me contemplating what if I could also turn back time, what if I could fix all mistakes, would I be happier? luckier? I push off those thoughts due to foolishness, yet two hours later, I still think of all the things that I would fix if I could back in time. Maybe I would have a better GPA, maybe I would still be friends with a few people, maybe I would lose a few, maybe... I think that this never-ending cycle of regret made me realize that no matter how hard I wish to turn back the clock and no matter how hard the experiences have been, they have shaped me into who I am today. They have taught me something special, making me a better, more mature person. As I look at my hardest moments, I can see how they have shaped my beliefs. I dont know what the effect of fixing all of my mistakes would be, but I do know that spend

Where I'm From

I’m from books, From rows of lockers and hallways. I’m from the fully packed library during finals week. (the printer-- always getting jammed) I am from those late night study sessions, The music playlists That would never end As if we would have the night forever. I’m from the bollywood movies and mango lassi  From both India and America. I’m from “Betas”  And “Mission? Stressful huh?” From “Uncle” and “Aunty” I’m from the poojas that last the whole day The glamorous get up And the mattar paneer. I’m from Northern Fremont and Southern Fremont, Pumpkin patches and chai, From glasses that I’ve worn my entire life, And the smell of chlorine that spreads around the house. Up through all the applications and notifications Spill out old memories, Of never ending laughs And of unforgettable moments. I am from those times, Where sorrow was never seen;   The milestones of my childhood.

Palais

There are some times when The waters play an unheard rhythm, Silent and sophisticated. And all the times That I sink below The ocean seems to glow,   And, all the bubbles, to the top they go To break the serenity of the underwater oasis.

The Taming of the Shrew Humbles Us All

Why would the modern audience find a four hundred year old play about taming wives appealing? The Taming of the Shrew written by William Shakespeare features how a woman must be tamed by her husband, but that is not the intent of the play. All the characters play against the expectations and play roles who they are not. Despite being known as a misogynistic play with antiquated morals and ethics, The Taming of the Shrew , can be modernized to appeal to the audience of today. The play starts off with a scene of a young man named Lucentio arriving in Paudau with his manservant, Tranio. They are ahving a discussion as they are internurpted by a crowd mostly composed of Baptista Minola; his daughters, short-tempered, hot-headed Katherine and naive, soft-spoken Bianca; and Bianca’s two suitors, older men named Hortensio and Gremio. Hortensio and Gremio are both depicted as average people of their society, when they are indeed not. Gremio and Hortensio are the perfect example of a hyp

Spiderman Far From Home Doesnt Make It Back

Following the jarring cliffhangers of Avengers Endgame, the anticipated release, Spiderman: Far From Home, fails to grip the audience as expected. The special effects and Disney-Channel level romance, unfortunately, did not do justice as the sequel to the Spiderman series.  The plot revolves around Peter Parker (Tom Holland), a not-so-average teenager who wants to leave his Superhero side behind when he goes on a school trip to Europe. The movie starts off with a memorial video at Peter’s school honoring those who died. Later on, we see Peter decides to give his superhero life a break, while he enjoys his vacation with his crush, MJ (Zendaya). However, he is caught by surprise when an unanticipated villain crashes his vacation.  The screenwriters (Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers) did a formidable job creating the plotline while having a standing challenge of matching the emotional heft of Endgame. The script, however, did lack a sense of substance and structure as it strictly

Emotions

Hold onto your emotions For if anger acts Your soul is a flower in spring That cannot bloom. Hold onto your emotions For when your mind explodes Dignity is a nonexistent Like a highway with crossroads.

The Good Old Days

When people talk about their childhood They speak as if it were an innocent child Who went out into the world and never Returned the same, and it makes me worry For the coming years, we have ahead filled with new experiences and moments, Novelty every step of the way, carefully walking on stepping stones on a pond Like a person walking on fire Burning and wincing every step of the way, then living One or two nights like everyone else With disregard to all new adventures.
