Where I'm From

I’m from books, From rows of lockers and hallways. I’m from the fully packed library during finals week. (the printer-- always getting jammed) I am from those late night study sessions, The music playlists That would never end As if we would have the night forever. I’m from the bollywood movies and mango lassi  From both India and America. I’m from “Betas”  And “Mission? Stressful huh?” From “Uncle” and “Aunty” I’m from the poojas that last the whole day The glamorous get up And the mattar paneer. I’m from Northern Fremont and Southern Fremont, Pumpkin patches and chai, From glasses that I’ve worn my entire life, And the smell of chlorine that spreads around the house. Up through all the applications and notifications Spill out old memories, Of never ending laughs And of unforgettable moments. I am from those times, Where sorrow was never seen;   The milestones of my childhood.

There are some times when The waters play an unheard rhythm, Silent and sophisticated. And all the times That I sink below The ocean seems to glow,   And, all the bubbles, to the top they go To break the serenity of the underwater oasis.

The Taming of the Shrew Humbles Us All

Why would the modern audience find a four hundred year old play about taming wives appealing? The Taming of the Shrew written by William Shakespeare features how a woman must be tamed by her husband, but that is not the intent of the play. All the characters play against the expectations and play roles who they are not. Despite being known as a misogynistic play with antiquated morals and ethics, The Taming of the Shrew , can be modernized to appeal to the audience of today. The play starts off with a scene of a young man named Lucentio arriving in Paudau with his manservant, Tranio. They are ahving a discussion as they are internurpted by a crowd mostly composed of Baptista Minola; his daughters, short-tempered, hot-headed Katherine and naive, soft-spoken Bianca; and Bianca’s two suitors, older men named Hortensio and Gremio. Hortensio and Gremio are both depicted as average people of their society, when they are indeed not. Gremio and Hortensio are the perfect example of a hyp

Spiderman Far From Home Doesnt Make It Back

Following the jarring cliffhangers of Avengers Endgame, the anticipated release, Spiderman: Far From Home, fails to grip the audience as expected. The special effects and Disney-Channel level romance, unfortunately, did not do justice as the sequel to the Spiderman series.  The plot revolves around Peter Parker (Tom Holland), a not-so-average teenager who wants to leave his Superhero side behind when he goes on a school trip to Europe. The movie starts off with a memorial video at Peter’s school honoring those who died. Later on, we see Peter decides to give his superhero life a break, while he enjoys his vacation with his crush, MJ (Zendaya). However, he is caught by surprise when an unanticipated villain crashes his vacation.  The screenwriters (Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers) did a formidable job creating the plotline while having a standing challenge of matching the emotional heft of Endgame. The script, however, did lack a sense of substance and structure as it strictly

Emotions

Hold onto your emotions For if anger acts Your soul is a flower in spring That cannot bloom. Hold onto your emotions For when your mind explodes Dignity is a nonexistent Like a highway with crossroads.

The Good Old Days

When people talk about their childhood They speak as if it were an innocent child Who went out into the world and never Returned the same, and it makes me worry For the coming years, we have ahead filled with new experiences and moments, Novelty every step of the way, carefully walking on stepping stones on a pond Like a person walking on fire Burning and wincing every step of the way, then living One or two nights like everyone else With disregard to all new adventures.

Why is it that...

Just like beginnings, why is it that everything must have an end? Why is it that last year always becomes the good old days? Why is it that we can never enjoy the moment that we’re in? Why is it that each day of the school year seems like a month long? Why is it that at the end of the day, the whole year feels like it took less than a week to go by? Why is it that the last day of school makes everyone nostalgic? Why is it that we are always late to realize that this will be our last Friday? Our last chem period? Our last sprint to class? Our last time spamming each other’s phones? Our last walk down our favorite hallway? Our last time that we’ll run on this track? Our last time in each and every classroom that we’re in? Why do these memories always bring us tears as nostalgia seeps into our minds? Just like beginnings, why is it that everything must have an end? What a terrible thing it is to botch a farewell. Mankind is one who believes in form, in the harmony of order. Where we

Students and the Stifling Stereotypes

Asian-Americans only comprise of a mere five point four percent of the US population, but, since this racial group has the highest pay in the country, they are stereotyped as the “model minority.” Students are subject to face the disadvantages of discrimination. Unfortunately, these problems are more evident in society than we think with the start of discrimination happening at an early age.  In Fremont, Mission San Jose High School is the twentieth best high school in the state, and, as a result, people believe that all Mission students are smart, studious, and well-rounded. Before diving into a discussion on the pros and cons of a being a “model minority” stereotype, we must first answer what exactly it is.  This stereotype is the cultural expectation that every Asian-American will be smart, hard-working, wealthy, independent, and obedient. People, including teachers, assume that all Asian-American students are naturally great at studies. This leads to people thinking that t

Ghosted - A Villanelle

All I want to know is why What occurred just as I feared, Ghosting me with no goodbye. Did you smile, or did you cry Because what you did set me to tears, And all I want to know is why. This helpless circumstance is what I wanted to deny But, why didn’t I see it when it was so clear Ghosting me with no goodbye. I saw the fog pouring into the sky. The storm awaits as you appear Because all I want to know is why. Your actions were not justified, But this guilt inside me began to sear, After ghosting me with no goodbye. I didn’t want what we had to die, So I still forgave you but became just your peer. All I wanted to know was why You ghosted me with no goodbye.

Food is a Feeling

Food, how it finds its way into my mouth. People eat because they are hungry, Or emotional, Or bored. But, I, for one, do not eat for survival. I eat to eat. I spend my lunch socializing and neglecting food, So I can give it my undivided attention. As I open my lunchbag, I inhale the smell of the Indian spices, and the sweet scent of the strawberries. I scrape the remains of my food, so I can savour all the flavor. My eyes, Nose, And mouth,   All foes work together to embrace food. As I swallow every time, my soul and my body become one. Food, how it finds its way to my mouth. Goosebumps have an effect on my body. I see,  Feel,  And embrace this feeling. This beautiful aching of hunger is something I love to endure. When I’m finished, I wait, For another time when food will find its way into my mouth.

Rejection - why it's necessary

Rejection.  Rejection is, unfortunately, a necessary part of human life. While a rejection-less life may sound ideal, it is an essential part of your well-being. After we get past the initial sting, a holistic approach to reevaluate yourself is actually to your advantage. It makes you push yourself, it makes you realize that something wasn’t meant to be, it makes you look forward to better opportunities in the future, and, most of all, it makes you grow.   There are many hidden, underlying benefits of being rejected, but the most important ones are that it motivates you, it teaches you, and it reminds you. It reminds you that sometimes no just means not right now. It teaches you that taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture helps you understand that there are many other things in store for you. It motivates you to acknowledge that rejection is a favor in disguise and a way to get on the right track and is the best way to move forward with a positive mindset. Finally, i

Isn't It Romantic - Yes, It is.

Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson and filled with a star-studded cast, the much-anticipated Valentine day release, Isn’t It Romantic, proves to be more than just a crowd-pleaser. With rom-coms making a comeback into Hollywood, this feel-good satire left its audience with a different type of cynical humor that only this cast could deliver. The film’s plot revolves around Natalie (Rebel Wilson), a cynical Australian architect living in New York City who despises romantic comedies. Since her childhood, she was always told that true love, the kind you find in the movies, was never made for girls like her. The movie starts off with her assistant and her debating the absurdities of rom coms. After deciding to become more open towards love, she knocks herself unconscious on the subway as she escapes being mugged and wakes up as the leading lady in a romantic comedy. Throughout the movie, the theater is filled with laughter as the movie pokes fun at the genre’s clichés. Wilson, relyi
